Basic math skills are implicit in rock play. Children compare sizes and weights, and they judge how few or many rocks are in their collections. They classify their rock discoveries by color, size, and more subjective characters, deciding which to keep and which to leave behind.
At Wonder Works we sometimes make rock math a little more explicit. These activities usually work best if there is an adult nearby to get children started and provide support (like reading labels).
